SHORT & SNAPPY PICTURE BOOKS

Series' Description:

Short & Snappy Picture Books are travel-size photo picture books. They are ideal for use as conversation-starters, memory-joggers and engaging entertainment when visiting family members or friends with dementia or other debilitating conditions in care homes, hospitals or in their own homes.

Short & Snappy Picture Books feature themed image collections of beautiful plants, stunning natural scenes, and everyday urban and rural sights photographed by Sandra Morton in the British Isles. The paperbacks are similar in size and feel to children's picture books – they are short, small and easy to handle, relaxing to view, have no distracting descriptive sections, and are in landscape orientation which provides a fuller and more engaging experience. These books make great gifts as there is no mention of "illness, age, or cognitive impairment" anywhere inside the books or on the covers.

Book Description

GORGEOUS GARDEN FLOWERS:  A conversation-starter, memory-jogger and engaging picture book for care home residents, dementia patients, invalids, seniors and adults confined indoors

Gorgeous Garden Flowers is Book 1 in the Short & Snappy Picture Books series. It is a colourful collection of close-up photographs showcasing the beauty and intricate detail of 43 popular garden flowers which are unobtrusively named on each page (see the 'Look Inside' images for examples). This book will appeal to dementia patients, seniors and invalids who previously enjoyed floristry, gardening or visiting gardens and parks but now have limited opportunity to experience those activities.

The travel-size paperback edition is 8.25” x 6” (20.96 x 15.24 cm). It is in landscape, rather than portrait, orientation as this provides a fuller, contextual view of the flowers, leaves and surrounding vegetation. The photographs were taken by Sandra Morton in her apartment garden in Devon and across the south of England, from Cornwall to Kent.

Gorgeous Garden Flowers is not a heavy, glossy and expensive coffee table photography book – it is more like a children’s paperback picture book in that it is light and portable so is easily held and carried by frail hands. The book is engaging and relaxing to look at, and with only 41-pages and no distracting text sections, is not overwhelming. It is ideal as a gift or Christmas stocking stuffer as there is no mention of "illness, age, or cognitive impairment" anywhere inside the book or on the cover.

The paperback is printed by Amazon with premium coloured ink on the same premium paper used for children's picture books.

Who doesn’t love a trip to the scenic British seaside? This colourful collection of photographs is sure to entertain and uplift the spirit, bring back happy memories, and spark animated conversations of fun times spent at the seaside.

Enjoying the Seaside is the second book in the Short & Snappy Picture Books series. The images showcase the varied scenery of the British seaside and the huge range of activities that can be enjoyed throughout the year on the beach, in and on the water, and along the cliffs, sand dunes, piers and promenades of coastline.  This travel-size paperback is 8.25” x 6” (20.96 x 15.24 cm), has 41 pages and 61 photographs, including the cover. It is in landscape orientation, rather than in portrait, as this gives a fuller view of the location and activities. The photographs were taken by Sandra Morton in England and Wales at various times of the year. She has also included two black and white photos from the 1950’s that were taken whilst she was enjoying the seaside with her parents. To see a selection of images from inside the book, scroll down to the ‘From the publisher’ section below.

Enjoying the Seaside will promote nostalgic conversation and bring back happy memories. It will appeal to seniors, dementia patients and invalids who may be confined indoors now but who previously lived by the coast or loved visiting the seaside on day trips or holidays. The book is ideal to use when visiting elderly family or friends in care homes or hospitals, and it also makes a great gift or Christmas stocking stuffer (there is no reference to “illness, age or cognitive impairment” inside or on the cover).

This paperback is small, light and portable, and is easily held and carried by frail hands. It resembles a children’s picture book rather than a heavy, glossy and expensive coffee table photography book which would be unwieldy for this purpose. Enjoying the Seaside is engaging and relaxing to look at, and with only 41-pages and no distracting text sections, it is not overwhelming for the viewer. It is printed by Amazon with premium coloured ink on white paper.
